Become a Junior Varsity Ace for the Record

At the Sports Journalism Workshop we will:

• Introduce writers to blogging for The Record’s Junior Varsity Aces web site
• Talk about how sports are covered
• Discuss what the different types of stories are, how to generate ideas, cultivate sources, and how to draw out interview subjects
• Put together a contact list
• Talk about the new world of multi-media and how that has changed modern journalism
• Research the influence of blogs, podcasts and the internet and debate whether that has made a reporter's job easier or harder

Instructor:

Darren Cooper has spent 12 years covering sports, first in New Orleans and for the last 10 years has worked in North Jersey. He has won 15 statewide awards for his writing and helped start the Varsity Aces web site. He is married, with an infant son and lives in Essex County.

Location:                                                            Ramapo College                                                  Mahwah, NJ                                                              MBA Lecture Hall, Room B224

Park in the Main Parking Lot of the College. Walk straight up the hill (with the Performing Arts Center on the left). The B Wing is the 2nd entrance. There will be a sign outside for you.
